During his historic official visit to Israel, Somaliland President Abdirahman Mohamed Abdullahi visited several of Israel’s most important historical and national memorial sites, reflecting the growing diplomatic relationship between Somaliland and Israel.
The President described the visit as an opportunity to better understand the historical importance of the sites while strengthening friendship, cooperation, and mutual understanding between the two nations.
Visit to Mount Herzl
President Cirro began his Jerusalem visit at Mount Herzl, Israel’s national cemetery and one of the country’s most symbolic state memorial locations.
Mount Herzl is named after Theodor Herzl, the founder of modern political Zionism, and serves as the burial site for Israeli presidents, prime ministers, military leaders, and national figures. The site is considered central to Israel’s national identity and modern state history.
During the visit, President Cirro laid a wreath at the memorial grounds in honor of those remembered there, a gesture symbolizing respect, diplomacy, and international friendship.

The Somaliland delegation also visited Yad Vashem, Israel’s World Holocaust Remembrance Center.
At Yad Vashem, President Cirro toured several important memorial and educational sites, including:
The Holocaust History Museum

The Hall of Remembrance
The Book of Names
The visit included an official remembrance ceremony attended by senior Israeli officials, including Yad Vashem Chairman Dani Dayan.
According to Israeli officials, the visit was viewed as an important diplomatic gesture emphasizing remembrance, historical understanding, and international cooperation.
Yad Vashem is internationally recognized as one of the world’s leading institutions dedicated to Holocaust remembrance, historical research, and education. World leaders and heads of state frequently visit the site during official visits to Israel.
Visit to the Groves of Nations
President Cirro also visited the Groves of the Nations, an area dedicated to honoring international friendship and remembrance.
The site symbolizes solidarity among nations, recognition of historical responsibility, peace, and cooperation among peoples.
In a statement shared following the visit, President Cirro said the locations carried “deep historical, humanitarian and moral significance,” adding that the experience strengthened understanding between Somaliland and Israel.
