SLDC and Voice of Horn Announce Strategic Media Partnership to Strengthen Somaliland’s Global Voice

Somaliland Diaspora Council and Voice of Horn join forces to expand media engagement, strengthen public advocacy and connect Somaliland’s story with audiences across the world.

The Somaliland Diaspora Council (SLDC) is pleased to announce an official strategic partnership with Voice of Horn, an independent media platform covering political, social and geopolitical developments across the Horn of Africa.

The partnership represents an important step in SLDC’s growing commitment to strengthening Somaliland’s international communication, expanding diaspora engagement and ensuring that Somaliland-related developments, achievements and perspectives reach wider regional and global audiences.

At a time when the Horn of Africa is receiving increasing international attention, credible communication and effective public engagement have become more important than ever.

Through this partnership, SLDC and Voice of Horn will seek to create stronger connections between diaspora advocacy, media communication and informed public dialogue.

A Partnership Built Around Communication and Global Engagement

SLDC was established to connect Somalilanders around the world and create a professional international platform through which the diaspora can contribute to leadership, diplomacy, education, investment, innovation and sustainable development.

Media plays an essential role in that mission.

Somaliland has an increasingly important story to communicate internationally — from its diaspora communities and democratic institutions to entrepreneurship, culture, development, investment opportunities and its growing engagement with the international community.

The partnership with Voice of Horn provides an opportunity to strengthen how those stories are communicated and discussed.

Rather than simply increasing the volume of information, the partnership will encourage credible, informative and responsible communication capable of reaching Somalilanders at home, the diaspora and wider international audiences.

Strengthening Somaliland’s Media Visibility

Voice of Horn has developed a growing digital media presence focused on developments affecting Somaliland and the wider Horn of Africa.

Its coverage includes current affairs, regional politics, geopolitical developments and public discussions involving analysts, commentators and members of the wider Somaliland community.

By collaborating with Voice of Horn, SLDC aims to complement its existing communications and international outreach with a media platform capable of bringing important conversations to broader audiences.

The partnership creates opportunities for collaboration around areas such as:

  • Somaliland diaspora stories and achievements

  • Community initiatives and development

  • International engagement and diplomacy

  • Youth leadership and innovation

  • Business, investment and entrepreneurship

  • Somaliland culture, history and identity

  • Interviews and expert discussions

  • Public forums and digital conversations

  • Major SLDC initiatives and events

  • Issues affecting Somaliland communities around the world

The collaboration is intended to strengthen public understanding while providing additional channels through which Somaliland voices and perspectives can be heard.

Connecting the Diaspora With the Homeland

One of SLDC’s core objectives is to reduce the distance between Somaliland and its global diaspora.

Somalilanders living in the United Kingdom, Europe, North America, the Middle East, Africa and elsewhere possess extensive professional experience, knowledge and international networks.

Their contribution extends across business, technology, education, healthcare, humanitarian work, diplomacy, academia and community leadership.

Effective media platforms can help connect those experiences with Somaliland.

Through storytelling, interviews, public discussions and collaborative media initiatives, the SLDC–Voice of Horn partnership can provide greater visibility to individuals and organisations contributing positively to Somaliland’s development and international profile.

It will also create new opportunities for younger Somalilanders in the diaspora to remain connected with their heritage while participating in conversations about the country’s future.

Supporting Informed Advocacy

Advocacy is most effective when supported by credible information, professional communication and meaningful public dialogue.

For SLDC, international advocacy is therefore not simply about promoting Somaliland. It is also about helping international audiences understand Somaliland through accurate information, context and constructive engagement.

SLDC has consistently identified international cooperation, diplomacy and global networking as important pillars of its work.

The partnership with Voice of Horn strengthens the media dimension of that strategy.

Through closer engagement between diaspora networks and media, both organisations can help amplify discussions concerning Somaliland’s development, opportunities, international relationships and role within the Horn of Africa.

Promoting Responsible and Credible Communication

A central principle of the partnership is the importance of credible communication.

The modern information environment moves rapidly. Social media can distribute information globally within minutes, but speed also increases the importance of accuracy, context and responsible reporting.

SLDC supports communication that encourages informed discussion rather than misinformation or unnecessary division.

Working alongside independent media provides an opportunity to promote stronger public dialogue while maintaining space for analysis, discussion and different perspectives.

This approach reflects SLDC’s broader commitment to professionalism, integrity and constructive international engagement.

Expanding Digital Engagement

The partnership also reflects the increasing importance of digital diplomacy and online communication.

Diaspora communities are highly connected through platforms such as X, YouTube, TikTok, Facebook and other digital networks.

These platforms now play a major role in shaping international awareness, mobilising communities and connecting policymakers, journalists, academics, entrepreneurs and civil society.

SLDC intends to continue strengthening its digital communications infrastructure while developing partnerships capable of expanding its international reach.

Collaboration with Voice of Horn will form part of this wider strategy.

A Platform for Future Collaboration

The announcement represents the beginning of a broader working relationship rather than the conclusion of one.

As the partnership develops, SLDC and Voice of Horn will explore opportunities for joint media initiatives, discussions, interviews, community engagement and coverage of issues relevant to Somaliland and its global diaspora.

The objective is straightforward:

to connect people, strengthen communication and ensure that Somaliland’s stories are heard with clarity, credibility and professionalism.

Building Somaliland’s Global Voice Together

The Somaliland Diaspora Council believes meaningful progress is built through collaboration.

Governments, diaspora organisations, businesses, civil society, media institutions, academics, professionals and young people all have roles to play in shaping Somaliland’s future.

The partnership between SLDC and Voice of Horn demonstrates how diaspora organisations and independent media can work together to strengthen communication and create platforms for informed engagement.

As SLDC continues expanding its international network, strategic partnerships will remain an important component of its mission.

Together, SLDC and Voice of Horn will work to strengthen media coverage, encourage informed advocacy and connect Somaliland’s voice with audiences around the world.
